A handbook on the management of all types of cancer, with emphasis on care of cancer patients within the community. The management of different types of cancer is covered, particularly the requirement of shared care in the community and the care needed for side effects and complications.
This handbook covers the management of all types of cancer, with an emphasis on those aspects of care of the cancer patient which are of particular interest in the community, for example the presentation of cancer and palliative care. The specialist management of different types of cancer is also covered, with particular regard being paid to the requirement of shared care in the community and the supportive care needed for the treatment of side effects and complications. This book is intended for the principal market of GPs, of whom there are about 30,000 in the UK alone. It should also be of interest to local health centres, hospices, community health-based professional such as health visitors and the Macmillan and Marie Curie nurses. It should also provide a useful resource for hospital-based doctors in oncology units and medical students, especially those wishing to specialize in oncology/cancer care. The combination, in the authorship team, of a hospital-based oncologist and a general practitioner with hospice experience aims to ensure that the book successfully targets these diverse markets.
