Contrast-Enhanced Mammography
Springer International Publishing (Verlag)
978-3-030-11062-8 (ISBN)
This book is a comprehensive guide to contrast-enhanced mammography (CEM), a novel advanced mammography technique using dual-energy mammography in combination with intravenous contrast administration in order to increase the diagnostic performance of digital mammography. Readers will find helpful information on the principles of CEM and indications for the technique. Detailed attention is devoted to image interpretation, with presentation of case examples and highlighting of pitfalls and artifacts. Other topics to be addressed include the establishment of a CEM program, the comparative merits of CEM and MRI, and the roles of CEM in screening populations and monitoring of response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy. CEM became commercially available in 2011 and is increasingly being used in clinical practice owing to its superiority over full-field digital mammography. This book will be an ideal source of knowledge and guidance for all who wish to start using the technique or to learn moreabout it.
Marc Lobbes is Director of Breast Imaging at the Maastricht University Medical Center in the Netherlands and a board member of the European Society of Breast Imaging. CEM is one of his areas of expertise, with his research focusing on implementation of CEM in everyday clinical practice and the improvement of CEM protocols for various indications. Maxine Jochelson is a board-certified radiologist with expertise in breast imaging as well as the interpretation of CT and PET scans. She is Director of Radiology at the Evelyn Lauder Breast and Imaging Center at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York. Among her areas of expertise is contrast-enhanced mammography, and she has been particularly interested in its use for screening women with dense breasts or at increased risk for breast cancer.
1 - The History of Contrast-enhanced Mammography.- 2 - The Physics of Contrast-enhanced Mammography.- 3 - Setting up a CEM Program.- 4 - Interpretation of CEM Images.- 5 - CEM Versus Breast MRI.- 6 - CEM as a Problem-solving Tool.- 7 - CEM in Screening Populations.- 8 - CEM in NAC Response Monitoring.- 9 - CEM and the ACR BI-RADS Lexicon.
"This well written and researched textbook is packed with high quality images and provides an up-to- date account of our current knowledge of CEM. All breast radiology specialists will find it of interest and practical value, particularly those who are planning to introduce this promising technique into their clinical practice."
