This title integrates both the basic science and clinical aspects of the gastrointestinal system, covering the most common gastrointestinal disorders that the student and junior are likely to encounter, and using multi-part schematic line diagrams to help explain key concepts.
Gastroenterology: An Integrated Text and Workbook adopts a problem-based approach to explaining key gastrointestinal disorders to the medical student and junior doctor. The book integrates both the basic science and clinical aspects of the gastrointestinal system, covering the most common gastrointestinal disorders that the student and junior are likely to encounter, and using multi-part schematic line diagrams to help explain key concepts. In the first section of the book, the chapters are organised logically, starting with the upper GI tract, the oropharymx and the oesophagus, then moving on to the stomach, hepatobiliary system, pancreas, small intestine and finally the large intestine. Within each region, its general organistaion is discussed first, followed by its functions and then by pathology and disease states. The second part of the book focuses on problem-based learning, covering 10-15 of the most common GI presentations (such as diarrhoea, weight loss, abnormal lover function tests etc.). There are also useful sections on commonly used investigations, imaging of the gastrointestinal system, obesity nutrition and nutritional disorders.
