Edward L. Machtinger, MD, is a Professor of Medicine and Director of the Women's HIV Program at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). Dr. Machtinger's primary academic interests are the relationship between HIV and violence against women and developing a scalable model of trauma-informed primary care for women and girls living with, and at risk for, HIV to heal from past trauma and prevent further abuse. Dr. Machtinger serves on the Executive Committee of the AIDS Research Institute (ARI) at UCSF and the Executive Committee for the oversight of Congressional Ryan White funds to women and children in San Francisco and is the Co-Chair of the San Francisco Task Force on HIV-positive adolescents. His other interests include the well-being of animals and the environment as well as the relationship between human health, animal welfare, and environmental stewardship. Peter A. Nigrovic, MD, is Assistant in Medicine, Boston Children's Hospital; Director, Center for Adults with Pediatric Rheumatic Illness (CAPRI), Brigham & Women's Hospital; Assistant Professor, Harvard Medical School. Janice A. Lowe, MD, is Clinical Professor of Pediatrics and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at the Stanford University School of Medicine. She was formerly Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School and Director of Education, Clerkship Director and Continuity Clinic Director for the Department of Pediatrics at Massachusetts General Hospital. She has practiced in Chelsea, Massachusetts, and East Palo Alto, California, communities which both have large immigrant and Spanish-speaking populations. She has also worked overseas including the Stanford University Children In Crisis Initiative in the Highlands of rural Guatemala. Her interests are in developmental and behavioral pediatrics and the delivery of health care services to culturally diverse communities.
