Multimodal Imaging in Uveitis (eBook)
XIII, 169 Seiten
Springer International Publishing (Verlag)

This book is a comprehensive guide to the imaging techniques that have revolutionized the diagnosis and management of uveitis during the past decade, including optical coherence tomography (OCT), enhanced depth imaging, fundus autofluorescence, and wide-field angiography. In addition, the current role of the traditional (invasive) gold standard techniques, fluorescein angiography and indocyanine green angiography, is described. Among the newer imaging modalities, detailed attention is paid to the various OCT technologies such as spectral domain OCT, enhanced-depth imaging OCT, and enface swept-source OCT. Further individual chapters focus on imaging using adaptive optics, multiview OCT, and OCT angiography.
Uveitis can affect virtually any structure in the eye, and imaging of these structures is critical in the diagnosis, prognosis, and management of the disease. Increasing use and better understanding of the different modalities described in this book are sure to improve our knowledge of disease mechanisms and likely outcomes.
H. Nida Sen MD, MHSc, is Director of the Uveitis and Ocular Immunology Fellowship Program and Staff Clinician at the National Eye Institute (NEI), National Institutes of Health (NIH), Bethesda, MD, USA. She is also an Associate Clinical Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology, The George Washington University/Medical Faculty Associates (MFA), Washington DC. Dr. Sen graduated from Medical School, Hacettepe University, Ankara, Turkey in 1997 and entered the Duke University-National Institutes of Health clinical research training program in 2002, gaining her Masters in Health Sciences in Clinical Research in September 2004. Her fellowship training was undertaken at the National Eye Institute, National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Maryland. She became a Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology in 2009. Dr. Sen is an Executive Committee Member of the American Uveitis Society (AUS). She has received two NEI Director's Awards and an Achievement Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology. She is lead or co-author of more than 70 articles in referenced journals and a reviewer for a number of leading journals.
Russell W. Read, MD, PhD, is a Professor (with tenure) in the Departments of Ophthalmology (Primary) and Pathology (Secondary), University of Alabama at Birmingham, USA. Dr. Read graduated magna cum laude from University of Alabama School of Medicine in 1994 and later obtained his Doctor of Philosophy from the same university for a dissertation on the role of complement in experimental autoimmune uveitis. He became a Diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners in 1996 and a Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology in 2000 (recertified in 2009). Dr. Read has been elected by peers for inclusion in Best Doctors in America since 2005. He is also the recipient of various other honors, including an Achievement Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Dr. Read is an elected member of the
International Uveitis Study Group. He is an editorial board member for the Journal of Ophthalmic Inflammation and Infection and Section Editor of Current Opinion in Ophthalmology, Ocular Manifestations of Systemic Disease, and EyeWiki (eyewiki.aao.org) (American Academy of Ophthalmology).
