Adipose Stem Cells and Regenerative Medicine
Springer Berlin (Verlag)
978-3-662-52025-3 (ISBN)
The therapeutic potential of the use of adipose stem cells in regenerative medicine has been increasingly recognized, and in recent years concrete clinical benefits have accrued as these cells have been explored for a variety of applications. This readable and informative textbook tracks the progress that has been made in this fascinating new area of biomedicine. All aspects of the subject are considered, with particular attention to adipose cell biology, adipose tissue engineering strategies, and the diverse clinical applications of adipose stem cells. Funding issues, industrial approaches, regulatory challenges, and future directions are also examined. The two editors have vast experience in the field and have chosen leading experts from different countries to write on each topic. This book will excite the interest of all researchers, clinicians, and students wishing to gain an in-depth understanding of adipose stem cells and their flourishing role in regenerative medicine.
Professor Yves Gérard Illouz is currently Professor of the Plastic Surgery Department, Saint Louis Hospital, in Paris, France. He is the Innovator of liposuction technique and he has been involved in adipose research in the last 30 years. He is the Honorary President of the 'Professor Illouz Association', an international medical association formed by more than 350 prominent plastic surgeons from all around the world with special interest on adipose tissue research and engineering. His PhD thesis is on Liposuction technique. In the last 30 years he has dedicated himself on the research of adipose tissue and he has pioneered innovations on liposuction techniques and autologous fat transplantation. He has published 30 peer reviewed articles and he has presented more than 550 lectures, around the globe. Dr Aris Sterodimas obtained the title of Consultant Plastic Surgeon from the world renowned center of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, The Ivo Pitanguy Institute, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He is the Head of Stem Surgery Clinic, and Consultant Plastic Surgeon in IASO General Hospital, in Athens, Greece. He obtained his Master degree in the field of Surgical Technology from Imperial College of London, United Kingdom. From 2005 onwards, he has been actively involved in research of Stem Cell application in the field of Regenerative Plastic Surgery and Regenerative Medicine. His PhD thesis is on Tissue Engineering in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery. Dr Sterodimas lectures worldwide and has published 20 peer reviewed articles and 5 book chapters about current applications and research on fat transplantation and adipose tissue engineering.

From the reviews:
"Adipose Stem Cells and Regenerative Medicine is a compilation of writings on the latest advances in adipose stem cell research, consisting of 24 chapters by international experts in the field. ... The book contains many elegant and descriptive images and figures. ... this is an excellent reference book for clinicians and scientists with an interest in adipose stem cell research. It is mostly directed toward clinicians, namely plastic surgeons, but engineers and scientists will also find the clinical sections informative and beneficial." (Kacey G. Marra and J.
