Open Programs for Associative Learning is an interactive system using computer technology and hypermedia principles to present an alternative approach to learning and teaching. OPAL modules provide tools such as, intermodular links, interactive animations, sensitive zones and words, and navigation tools. This module covers the structure, development and mechanisms of function of various immune cell types. It includes immunoglobulin structure, action, classification and genetics; the MHC complex; the system of complement; cell-mediated lysis and cytotoxicity; and T cell activation. The software is compatible with Mackintosh and MS-Windows operating systems. It requires 2 Mb Ram and 2Mb harddisk storage.
Scope of immune cells; T lymphocyte; B lymphocyte; macrophages; central role of macrophages; polymorphonuclear granulocytes; structure of immunoglobulin; B cell antigen receptor complex; immunoglobulin production; biological activities of immunoglobulins (human); antibody response; gene families of immunoglobulin; antigen presenting cells and antigen presentation; immunoglobulin gene recombination; molecules involved in T cell-APC or target cell match; antigen; antigen-antibody binding; B cells activation (T-dependent); B cells activation (T- independent); difference of antigen recognition between T and B cells; antigen presentation on MHC class II molecules; antigen presentation on MHC class I molecules; T cells antigen receptor complex (TCR2/CD3 complex); complement system; biological effects of complement; MHC class I and II genes (mouse and human); complement classical pathway; complement alternate pathway; complement common pathway; stress proteins (heat shock proteins, hsp); T cell development; B cell development; cytokines; lymphokines; cytokine receptor family; natural killer cells; cell-mediated lysis (2) granule exocytosis; cell-mediated cytotoxicity (1) - contactual lysis; cell-mediated cytotoxicity; T lymphocyte activation; T cell activation; T cell activation by APC; distinct activation cascades in T cell subsets; T cell activation by anti-CD-3 mAb; T cell activation with pharmacologic agents; T cell activation by super antigen; structure of MHC class I and class II; immunoglobulin superfamily; T cell activation with lectins; intergrin family; immunoglobulin classification; IgM.
