Discusses normal scanning procedures and protocol for abdominal sonography, and the scanning of specific abdominal cavities and organs, including abdomino-pelvic scanning of paediatric patients. The book focuses on superficial structures and special studies. Sonograms and schematics are included.
A text reference for sonographers and sonography students which teaches them how to perform abdominal sonographic exams and also how to interpret the images. The material is presented by organ system. The information is presented in a style similar to that found in Volume 1 - Obstetrics/Gynaecology and Volume 2 - Echocardiography. Many chapters have been written by both a sonographer and a physician. Each chapter presents normal anatomy, physiology, laboratory values, scanning techniques and normal sonographic anatomic representation. This is followed by explanations of anatomic variance, abnormalities, and pathology which is presented with the sonographic representation of each entity. The information is presented in a manner which facilitates an easy transition from the conceptual into the actual clinical setting. Numerous tables and illustrations augument the flow of information. Within each chapter basic information is provided for review and/or to lay the foundation for clinical application. Once this foundation has been established, material which is presented becomes more difficult and complicated.
