Multifunctional Bioceramics for Innovative Therapy

Selected, peer reviewed papers from the 28th Annual Meeting of the International Society for Ceramics in Medicine (Bioceramics 28), October 18-21, 2016, Charlotte North Carolina, USA
"Bioceramics 28" (proceedings of the 28th Annual Meeting of the International Society for Ceramics in Medicine, held October 18 to 21, 2016, Charlotte, North Carolina, USA) describes the most recent research efforts in the development of new methods for synthesis and characterization of bioceramics for various applications in the medical field. The multidisciplinary nature of the field of bioceramics has brought together contributions from authors with wide diversity of backgrounds including, clinicians, engineers and scientists. The chapters of the book demonstrate the extensive research efforts directed to exploit the application of bioceramic as a delivery system for anticancer drugs, antibiotics, growth factors, peptides and therapeutic ions. Moreover, the methods of manufacturing and processing of bioceramics as bulk, coating on substrate, gel, porous granules or cement are described.
