A revised edition of a title which contains guidelines and procedures to respond to around 100 athletic injuries, with definitions, causes, symptoms and step-by-step procedures for all the injuries covered. Includes suggestions for preventing injuries and on returning to exercise after injury.
Many sporting programmes don't have qualified first aid personnel. Because of this, a coach is typically the first person to respond to an athlete's injuries. "Sport First Aid" helps coaches become competent first responders. It is a comprehensive, yet quick, reference for administering proper immediate emergency care to injured or ill athletes. In addition to developing a basic knowledge of sport injuries, coaches should learn how to recognize common sport injuries and administer appropriate sport first aid. This book features step-by-step procedures for nearly 100 athletic injuries, highlighted by more than 250 illustrations. Of special interest is a chapter devoted to the 39 musculoskeletal injuries most frequently suffered by athletes. The chapter defines each injury; describes its causes, history, symptoms, and signs; and outlines the appropriate first aid measures. Guidelines for the athlete's playing status and suggestions for preventing each injury are also provided.
Other unique features include "do not" instructions for avoiding serious consequences of inappropriate first aid; procedures for handling an athlete suffering depressant or stimulant overdose; guidelines for preparing an emergency plan; and sections on conditioning, nutrition, and flexibility.
