This comprehensive text covers all aspects of child psychiatry, including methods of assessment and treatment. The introductory section of the book contains an overview of the subject and a discussion of classification and assessment of and parental influences on the psychiatric and psychological disorders of childhood. The next section describes the normal and abnormal patterns of child behaviour in many different areas, such as sleeping, eating, language and learning, and emotional disorders. A discussion of adult-type psychiatric disorders is then followed by extensive coverage of the psychosocial aspects of physical disorders, discussing their impact on both the child and parents and siblings. The text is concluded by sections on preventiona nd treatment, and on the various services available to professionals and the parents and children. New sections have been added by the author for his edition, including those on theoretical aproaches, post-traumatic stress disorder and the classification systems ICD-10 and DSM 111-R.
