My name is P Vijeyata and I am a student of Masters in Public Health program, University of Hyderabad. I have done my Bachelors in Biotechnology from Bhavan's Vivekananda degree college, Sainikpuri (Secunderabad). I am also a student of post graduate diploma in Governance from centre of distance and virtual learning, University of Hyderabad. The summers of 2014, during my second semester holidays I spent my time working as an intern/volunteer for a Chhattisgarh based NGO called 'Tapasya' which mainly operates in my hometown 'Bilaspur'. The organization works mainly towards social causes like women empowerment, setting up of cottage industries, food processing, skill development in unemployed people etc. I assisted the organization in the food processing project wherein I was responsible for efficient use of the raw materials by the trainees. I worked for them for a period of two and a half months from May 6th 2014 to July 15th 2014 for which I was awarded a certificate of appreciation for my contribution in the project. The next year I was invited to participate in their next project which was a survey on 'Collusive behaviour in Health services', in the view of my qualification as a public health student I was asked to work for them as a program co-ordinator. This offer happened to overlap with my dissertation work which I was supposed to submit in the final year of my masters. My study was also based in Bilaspur and required me to stay in the city for 2 months in order to collect data. The title of my thesis was "Male involvement in their partner's pregnancy and childbirth; An exploratory study in Bilaspur district of Chhattisgarh". I agreed to work for the organization in exchange for assistance from them in my study for conducting mass interviews. Thus I worked for the organization for a period of one month. The motivation to commit for volunteering services comes from the values which are instilled in me right from my childhood. My family is my source of inspiration. All my experiences with these organizations have made me aware of the existing ground realities with respect to environmental issues, gaps in the current health and education system which ultimately makes me a better and an informed citizen of the country.Currently I am working as a research fellow for the Saratoga foundation for worldwide women, and preparing a report on Nepalese women and conditions which affect them. It is an exciting project and something I feel strongly about.
