"Swearingen/Keen:Manual of Critical Care Nursing" is a mid-range clinical reference for practicing and student critical care nurses. Using the 13th Conference (1999-2000) NANDA nursing diagnoses, it provides quick information for over 75 clinical phenomena seen in critical care and is used in the clinical setting to plan nursing care. Each disorder includes a brief description of pathophysiology, assessment, diagnostic testing, collaborative management, nursing diagnoses, nursing interventions specific to those diagnoses, and patient teaching and rehabilitation."Swearingen/Keen" is comprehensive yet concise and easy to use because of its abbreviated outline format and its portable trim size. In addition to updating the information to keep pace with current practice in critical care, the new edition also includes Nursing Intervention Classifications (NIC) created by the Iowa Intervention Project. NIC is an ANA recognized taxonomy for the nursing profession, and provides intervention labels and specific activities used by nurses in a wide variety of settings. Suggested NIC interventions will be listed alongside the current interventions for each nursing diagnosis.
Also to be included in the fourth edition of the Manual are Research Brief Boxes for most topics. These research briefs will contain summaries (5-6 sentences) of relevant research articles for nurses/students that require more information on current nursing research.
