This multi-author book on respiratory medicine stresses the distinctive nature of respiratory diseases in the tropics, with emphasis on practice in India. It contains contributions by many eminent physicians.
This book on respiratory medicine stresses the very distinctive nature of respiratory diseases in the tropics largely due to high prevalence of tobacco-smoking, increasing environmental pollution, under-nutrition and overcrowding. Respiratory diseases are among the most common medical disorders encountered in clinical practice, and consequently respiratory infections, particularly tuberculosis and pneumonia, continue to be the most important respiratory disorder in developing countries. At the same time as, state-of-the-art intensive respiratory care facilities are available at many centres in these countries, this book aims to highlight the practice of respiratory medicine in the tropics, with emphasis on practice in India.
