A guide to the respiratory care exam for entry level and advanced exams. This text covers topics such as oxygen and medical gas therapy; cardiopulmonary patient assessment; IPPB therapy; arterial blood gas interpretation; and equipment decontamination/infection control.
This book and CD-ROM package, unlike most of its competitors, combines review for both the Entry-Level Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) and Advanced-Level Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) exams. These exams are administered by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) to credential respiratory therapists. Beginning in 2000, the exams will be administered via computer rather than paper-and-pencil. The book contains review and two practice exams (one Entry-Level and one Advanced), and the CD-ROM offers an additional two practice exams (one Entry-Level and one Advanced) as well as six Clinical Simulations, which are structured similarly to those on the actual Advanced-Level exam. These simulations are complex and invaluable in showing readers what they can expect to find in this portion of the test. Each of the four practice exams included in this package contains the same number of questions as the actual NBRC exams and is based on the most current exam matrices, which means they contain the most pertinent and up-to-date information available.
All together, the book/CD-ROM package provides over 800 practice questions to give the reader ample opportunity to become familiar with what is on the actual exams and develop more confidence going into the exam. The book also provides a pre-test before each chapter to allow readers to establish their personal strengths and weaknesses. An outlined review of content makes it easy to access the areas on which the reader wants to focus his/her attention. End-of-chapter review questions allow the reader to test what he/she has learned. Each response in the Clinical Simulations exercises and every correct answer in the four Practice tests is supported with a detailed explanation, to provide the reader with a better understanding of why it was the best choice and why the others were not.
