This book evaluates the contributions of the electronic control unit software of an electric vehicle on sustainability and society, such as the reduction of emissions during a product design and the improvements in the vehicle.

A sustainable transport model is proposed, demonstrating its economic viability. By validating software in a more efficient way and adding new functionalities to the software to enhance driving efficiency, energy consumption can be significantly reduced. Therefore, software validation and development have a significant impact on sustainability. This book offers innovative validation solutions based on artificial intelligence techniques to reduce validation time and emissions.

The impact of driving efficiency on sustainable transport models is studied in detail, making proposals to be considered in the current environmental policies under discussion within the European Union in order to improve the sustainability of transport models.

Vehicles are becoming sophisticated electronic systems due to the fact that they are integrating a significant number of electronic control units. This trend will certainly continue in the year to come. Consequently, software validation techniques are a key element for car manufacturers in order to ensure the quality of the vehicle. This book contributes to these efforts.

Dr. Pedro Miguel Ortega Cabezas obtained Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering and a Master in Electrical, Electronic and Control Engineering; has large experience in the automotive sector (production, industrialization, product development, project manager); since 2014, responsible for powertrain software validation and expertise analysis in several engine development project (electric, diesel and petrol engines) in different design center of well-known car manufacturers such as Stellantis and Renault; has experience in tuning activities mainly in electronic functions (CAN, LIN, ...); participated in driving tests in different countries such as Finland and Spain; has experience in ADAS validation systems such adaptive cruise control or city park; the technical project manager of gateway telematic control units designed for new trucks of different manufacturer in French design centers such as Actia in Toulouse; since 2019, the electronic design leader in charge of coordinating the software and hardware development of lighting systems in Valeo; since 2021, the technical product engineer responsible for coordinating the design of software, hardware, optic and mechanics interior lighting systems; and has experience in complex electronic and software development and testing, ISO26262, ASPICE.

Dr. Antonio Colmenar-Santos obtained Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Industrial Engineering; was a senior lecturer in the field of electrical engineering in the Department of Electrical, Electronic and Control Engineering at UNED; and from June 2014, he obtained a favorable resolution from the National Agency for Quality Assessment and Accreditation of Spain (ANECA by its acronym in Spanish) to be habilitated as a full professor. He has been an adjunct lecturer in both the Department of Electronic Technology at the University of Alcalá and in the Department of Electric, Electronic and Control Engineering at UNED. He has been the head of the Department of Electrical, Electronics and Control Engineering at UNED. He has been part of the Spanish section of the International Solar Energy Society (ISES) and of the Association for the Advancement of Computing in Education (AACE), working in the different projects related to renewable energies and multimedia systems applied to teaching. Dr. Colmenar-Santos is the author of more than 85 papers published on peer-reviewed journals. He has participated in more than 100 national and international conferences related to renewable energies and multimedia systems applied to teaching. Stanford's 'World's Top 2% Scientists', according to the ranking of Stanford University, would be among the two percent of the most cited scientists for the year 2019 among the more than 8 million active researchers worldwide (latest published data). And together with only six other UNED professors, he would occupy the central position among them.

Dr. David Borge-Diez obtained Doctorate in Industrial Engineering from the Higher Technical School of Industrial Engineers of the UNED (Spain), Industrial Engineer (major in energetics) from the University of Valladolid and has postgraduate and master's studies, especially in the field of energy, environmental management and other related fields, which provides him a multidisciplinary vision. Dr. David Borge-Diez has published more than 60 scientific articles in journals indexed in the JCR, contributed to more than 10 international congresses, supervised several doctoral theses and participated in the preparation and edition of books, published in prestigious international publishers. He has participated in several national and international research projects and is part of different scientific committees. He developed his professional activity for several years in a private company, in positions related to energy engineering. Currently, Dr. David Borge-Diez is a university professor in the Area of Electrical Engineering at the University of León, where he develops his teaching and research activity. He collaborates in scientific dissemination work in the field of energy to publicize the latest developments and raise awareness about the importance of its efficient use.
