This book provides a comprehensive guidance for the use of sound statistical methods and for the evaluation of fatigue data of welded components and structures obtained under constant amplitude loading and used to produce S-N curves. Recommendations for analyzing fatigue data are available, although they do not deal with all the statistical treatments that may be required to utilize fatigue test results, and none of them offers specific guidelines for analyzing fatigue data obtained from tests on welded specimens. For an easy use, working sheets are provided to assist in the proper statistical assessment of experimental fatigue data concerning practical problems giving the procedure and a numerical application as illustration.

Fabien Lefebvre is a scientific advisor at Cetim and the technical referent of the X-ray diffraction laboratory (COFRAC accredited (No. 1-1014). He is an expert in fatigue and residual stress analysis. He is the co-chairman of the Fatigue commission of SF2M, the chairman of the French residual stress analysis group (GFAC), the chairman of the IIW working group of commission XIII (fatigue), and the chairman of the international conference on fatigue design. He participates in national and European standardization work on X-ray diffraction in the CEN/TC138/WG10 working group.

Michel Huther is retired from Bureau Veritas Marine and Offshore Division. He jointed Bureau Veritas in October 1969 in the Rules and Regulation department, then in 1976, he became the head of the R&D department (Ship hydrodynamic, Structure fatigue, Probabilistic approach, Risk analysis). In 1998, he became a scientific and technical advisor of the Marine & Offshore Direction and from 2000 to 2003 the technical deputy director. He was a professor in engineering schools: fatigue of materials ENSTA, ISMCM, EPF, and ship classification ENSIETA, University of Newcastle. He has been a member of professional groups: ATMA, SF2M, ISSC, SNAME, RINA, IIW (Com XIII, Com XV, the chairman of Com XIII-WG1). He published more than 200 technical and scientific papers (in French, English, Spanish languages) on in-service behavior and safety of ship and offshore structures subjects.

Isabel Huther is a technical expert in fatigue and fracture mechanics at Cetim. She is the technical referent of HCF, LCF fatigue and KIC, fatigue crack growth tests (COFRAC accredited (No. 1-1014).

Guy Parmentier is a former research engineer at Bureau Veritas Marine and Offshore. He was an expert of Ship and Offshore Structures, Structural Reliability Analysis, Fatigue and Fracture Mechanics Analysis for ships and offshore structures design and maintenance. He was the former chairman of the IIW WG1 (working group Fatigue Testing and Evaluation of Data for Design), Commission XIII (Fatigue). He was involved from 1991 to 2018 in different committees in the ISSC (Ship and Offshore Structures Congress) Committee III-2 Fatigue and Fracture), Committee III-1 (Ultimate Strength) and Committee VI-1 (Reliability-Based Structural Design and Code Development).
