Building Applications for Windows Server 2003 will help you build secure applications utilizing technologies such as COM+, IIS 6, XML web services, and UDDI Services.
Windows Server 2003 is arguably the most advanced Microsoft operating system that has been released bearing the Windows moniker. It is the first operating system that natively includes the .NET Framework, version 1.1. This will allow you to begin writing .NET applications for your enterprise without deploying the .NET Framework to your server first. Building Applications for Windows Server 2003 is designed to help you as a developer understand the new features of Windows Server 2003 and how you can apply these new features to your new .NET applications as well as your existing .NET applications. This book is intended for the intermediate to advanced-level .NET developer that wishes to not only learn these new concepts from a real-world perspective now, but also have a reference book for these concepts in the future. This book builds on a sample application and follows a few different phases of the software development life cycle. You will begin by learning what' s new with the .NET Framework 1.1 and best practices of writing ASP.NET applications. Next, you will learn about the new features of Internet Information Services 6.0 by installing and configuring a sample application.
Next, you will learn about the new features COM+ 1.5 and focus on how your applications can take advantage of these features to improve performance and reliability. Next, you will learn about XML web services and how you can use Windows Server 2003' s UDDI Services for an enterprise wide implementation of web services. Then you will lean how to best secure your applications by applying different techniques that are available both in Windows Server 2003 and the .NET Framework. Finally, you will learn about application deployment.
