This book presents a collection of results from the interdisciplinary research project "ELLI" published by researchers at RWTH Aachen University, the TU Dortmund and Ruhr-Universität Bochum between 2011 and 2016. All contributions showcase essential research results, concepts and innovative teaching methods to improve engineering education. Further, they focus on a variety of areas, including virtual and remote teaching and learning environments, student mobility, support throughout the student lifecycle, and the cultivation of interdisciplinary skills.

Sulamith Frerich currently holds the position of an assistant professor for Virtualization of Process Technology- Experimental Experiences in Engineering Education at the Ruhr-University Bochum, Germany. Her research includes simulation and remote operation of test facilities. Tobias Meisen is the managing director of the Institute of Information Management in Mechanical Engineering (IMA) at RWTH Aachen University since 2014. His main research areas comprise interoperability of heterogeneous system landscapes and artificial intelligence in production scenarios.
