Describing the advantages of object oriented programming for finite element software development, this book explains the overall design philosophy and provides the reader with detailed programming information. It highlights the differences and demonstrates the advantages of the OO approach. It helps readers in implementing their own OO code.
This book describes the advantages of object oriented programming for finite element software development. It explains the overall design philosophy and provides the reader with detailed programming information. The OO approach to finite element programming requires a radically different approach from that used for traditional finite element programming. It highlights the differences and demonstrates the advantages of the OO approach. Sufficient detailed programming information is included in this book to help readers to implement their own OO code or adapt the ideas presented in it.

Ian Mackie is a lecturer in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Dundee, Scotland. His research covers two main fields: (i) the application of computational techniques to structural engineering problems; and (ii) the study of water filtration. The former covers the application of object-oriented methods, numerical methods, and neural network techniques. Applications include finite element analysis, dynamic behaviour of structures, cold-formed steel design, masonry arches, and novel structural materials.
