No other book is positioned to perform for the intermediate-through-advanced user market like Inside UltraDev 4. Each chapter is divided into three sections. The first section provides a detailed description of the chapter topic including call-outs that alert the reader to potential pitfalls. This discussion is followed by a step-by-step exercise, during which the reader will construct an element of a Website based on the chapter topic. The final section of each chapter focuses specifically on technical aspects. These discussions range from the detailed analysis of specific code to the troubleshooting of common database connectivity issues and provide advanced users with the ability to extend the results of the exercises. The exercises in each chapter come together to form a complete project that constructs a fully-functional Website. Included with the book is a CD containing software such as Microsoft's Personal Web Server, available UltraDev extensions, sample graphics, and database tables for use in chapter exercises.
Sean R. Nicholson is the Network Administrator and Web Developer for the Career Services Center at the University of Missouri, Kansas City. Sean has a Juris Doctor from UMKC, but opted to follow a career path in technology rather than law. Sean has been working with computers since the day a shiny new Apple II computer showed up at his house when he was twelve (eighteen years ago). Sean began building Web pages using Notepad and has been developing sites in Dreamweaver after version 1.0 was released. In addition, he has used Drumbeat and UltraDev extensively in both Web-based and Intranet-based projects. Sean's technical publications include Discover Excel 97 (IDG Books) and Teach Yourself Outlook 98 in 24 Hours (Sams) and he has written several legal articles ranging on topics from Canadian water rights to the protection of historic artifacts lost at sea. When he's not glued to a computer, Sean spends time with his family and friends, devoting most of his time to his wife and his two-year-old daughter. Sean is currently using UltraDev to further develop UMKC's Virtual Career Fair and is building the first interactive Virtual Career Center using Macromedia UltraDev, Flash, and Fireworks. He has worked with computers for over 20 years and currently teaches desktop publishing, Web site development, and computer networking with Windows NT and Windows 2000. John is the father of four children and is closing in on an even half-dozen grandchildren. His best-selling books include Excel 95 Secrets (IDG Books), Discover Excel 97 (IDG Books), and Teach Yourself Outlook 98 in 24 Hours (Sams). (Duds are not listed!)
