In doing so, it provides an understanding of the essential elements, concepts and challenges of the journey into research studies. It also provides a gateway for the student to inquire deeper about each element covered. Comprehensive and broad but also succinct and compact, the book is focusing on the key principles and challenges for a novice doctoral student.

Jan Recker is Full Professor and Woolworths Chair of Retail Innovation at Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane, Australia. At 32 years of age, Jan was one of the youngest-ever academics to become tenured full Professor in Australia. His research interests focus on the use of process design in organizational practice, business transformations and organizational innovation. Jan has co-authored over 100 academic papers on basis of both qualitative and quantitative research on Information Systems in books, journals and conferences. His research has appeared, amongst others, in the MIS Quarterly, Journal of the Association for Information Systems, Information Systems, European Journal of Information Systems, Information & Management, Scandinavian Journal of Information Systems and others. He is Associate Editor for Communications of the AIS, and a Senior Editor for the Journal of IT Theory and Application. He holds a PhD in Information Systems from Queensland University of Technology and a Master of Science in Information Systems from the University of Muenster, Germany.
