Now, with the advent of VPN technology, Windows 2000 you will have the capability to roll out network designs that will save you money, be faster and easier to administer and maintain, and will solve many connectivity problems that are impractical to solve before. One of the most important changes in Windows 2000 is the addition of enhanced routing (the first "R" in "RRAS") and better remote client services (the "RAS"). The key uses of these features are found in Microsoft's new virtual private networks (VPN) technology. The ever increasing number of mobile workers, as well as the demand for Internet access from every desktop has changed the face of the traditional network. Windows 2000 offers new ways to perform these tasks and many new features have been integrated into the operating system. This book will show you how to design, install, and manage a Windows 2000 network using RRAS.

Kackie Charles, MCSE, MCT, has been working with Windows NT since 1995, and has been Microsoft certified since 1996. Kackie was the principal instructor at New Horizons Computer Learning Center from 1995 to 1998, and joined Unisys Corporation as a network design engineer in 1998, where she was an enterprise architect for the Navy Standard Personnel System program. Kackie was recognized for her work on NSIPS by the Naval Reserve Information Systems Office and was presented with the Unisys Award for Excellence. In 1999, Kackie started Kackie Charles Systems Engineering, through which she actively supported the NSIPS program as part of the Systems Engineering/Deployment group. As part of this team, she supported the implementation of NSIPS software on over 400 servers and over 4000 workstations worldwide. In March 2000, Kackie joined Woosh! in Palo Alto, CA, as an IT Specialist. Kackie is the technical editor of The Complete Idiot's Guide to Networking and Teach Yourself Windows Networking in 24 Hours, Second Edition.
