The Team That Wrote This Book This book was produced by a team of specialists from around the world working at the International Technical Support Organization, Austin Center. Tetsuya Shirai is a Project Leader at the International Technical Support Organization (ITSO), Austin Center. He worked in Tokyo, Japan before joining the Austin ITSO. He has been with IBM for seven years, working for the last four years with DB2 UDB products. He has worked in the area of DB2 services, teaching classes to both customers and employees of IBM. He has also provided consulting services to DB2 customers worldwide. Dr. Rodolphe Michel is currently providing technical support, education, and consulting services to DB2 customers across EMEA on all the DB2 UDB platforms. He has been with IBM since 1989. He has been a member of the DB2 development team at the IBM Database Technology Institute (DBTI) in San Jose, CA (USA), has been a speaker at numerous international technical conferences (VLDB, IDUG, and so on), and has taught DB2 UDB related courses and certification programs worldwide. Rodolphe Michel holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Paris 6 University. Mark Wilding currently works as an Advisory Software Developer at the IBM Toronto Lab where he has been an integral part of the DB2 UDB UNIX Porting Team since joining IBM in 1996. He is currently the technical lead for the Solaris port of DB2 with an in-depth knowledge of many other UNIX based operating systems. Mark has also worked extensively with Clustering and High Availability, thus, bringing specific expertise in DB2 and the other Sun Cluster environment. Mark is also a recognized networking expert. Tom Bauch has been a Systems Engineer with IBM since 1979. During his career, he has supported SQL/DS, DL/I, DB2/2, DB2 Common Server, and DB2 Universal Database. He spent several years with IBM Education and Training, teaching DB2 Administration, Net.Data, DB2 EEE Administration, and the DB2 Extenders classes. Currently, he is a Consulting Systems Engineer on IBMs DB2 Ranger Team, which is exclusively dedicated to supporting IBM Data Management Solutions on Sun Solaris. Scott Logan is a Senior Development Analyst at the IBM Toronto Lab and is the technical lead of the DB2 UDB UNIX Porting Team. A member of the DB2 UDB team since its inception in 1991, Scott was a member of the original team that began porting DB2 Version 1 to Solaris and HP-UX in 1993. Scott has been involved in producing numerous published performance benchmarks with DB2 for Solaris and has worked extensively with customers helping them plan, implement, tune, and refine their DB2 for Solaris installations. A recognized expert on Solaris and portability issues within IBM, Scott currently leads the group of IBM developers porting DB2 to more than six UNIX variants including Solaris, HP-UX and Linux. Scott is a member of the DB2 UDB Software Design Group.
