In this chapter, you learned the basics of Visual Web Developer 2005, and you built your first interactive web application. You also learned about object-oriented programming (OOP). As you progress throughout the book, you will quickly be building more advanced web app- cations including database applications. But first, you need to get more familiar with your development environment. Chapter 2 takes you on a guided tour of the IDE so you will be able to navigate around quickly and accomplish your tasks. CHAPTER 2 ? ? ? The Development Environment The Integrated Development Environment (IDE) we will be using to build our ASP. NET 2. 0 applications is Visual Web Developer (VWD). Throughout this chapter we will take a high-level guided tour of the IDE so you become familiar with most of the important tools available to build your applications more quickly and with less hassle. As you will see, building web app- cations with VWD is no hassle at all. Although hundreds of pages could be written to encompass all the productivity tools ava- able in such a powerful development environment, this chapter will focus on the high-level items you will want to know right away. A lot of the other wizards and tools available are c- ered throughout the book as we discuss the aspects of the technology we are dealing with. For example, we will discuss the wizards that are used to configure a data source in the chapters that discuss working with data.
