It's a truism that dogs are a man's best friend. Since joining their destiny to ours millenia ago, dogs have played a huge part in our lives. Even now they continue to do many jobs and duties we either can't or won't do ourselves, as well as remaining our steadfast and uncomplaining companions through thick and thin.It can be all too easy to take our canine friends for granted. This fascinating and entertaining book reveals a multitude of little-known gems about the world of dogs and is packed with facts and stories about dogs at work and play; dogs in sport and war; famous and legendary dogs; dogs in music, literature and art; canine behaviour, health and nutrition, and dog breeds and competitions.Lightly sprinkled with some canine humour and quotations, this wide-ranging miscellany is essential reading for dog owners and lovers everywhere.

Karen Bush grew up with a family dog, several budgerigars and a couple of borrowed ponies; later on other dogs arrived, including a Springer Spaniel, Manchester Terrier-cross and three rescue dogs, a whippet called Fern, and a Bouvier-cross called Boris. Lisa and her dogs have starred in a series on canine agility in Your Dog magazine, to which Karen has been a regular contributor since 1995, writing on a wide range of canine subjects. She is also the author of around 15 equestrian books.
