An ingenious and charming little book, inspired by the plays of the inimitable William Shakespeare, filled with quizzes and puzzles to test your knowledge and refresh your memory.
Inspired by the plays of the inimitable William Shakespeare, the quizzes and puzzles in this ingenious little book are designed to test your knowledge and refresh your memory. The focus is on familar passages – it is always a pleasure to come across what is known, and loved – but there is also plenty here to test the most knowledgeable.

Each crossword is based on an individual play, with every clue being a quotation from that play. Some of the quizzes are composed of quotations with a missing word, while others ask questions on a variety of topics in the plays. Each name game is based on the dramatis personae of a particular play and each wordsearch has a theme: heroes, heroines, place names and fools and fairies.

‘Shakespeare one gets acquainted with without knowing how,’ Jane Austen wrote. ‘It is part of every Englishman’s constitution. His thoughts and beauties are so spread abroad that one touches them everywhere, one is intimate with him by instinct.’

Let this charming little book put that claim to the test.
