Chapter 1
Ruler
Enshrouded in darkness, Damon enjoyed observing Meredith slumber. While he gazed at her, his whole body experienced a painful transformation. Damon opened himself to the evil powers of the universe. His soul changed, making his lustful thoughts plummet to great depths as he sent dreams of violent passion to Meredith, turning the beauty’s sleep into a nightmare.
As Gregory observed the evil genius at work, Damon sat before his father figure with a crazed look. He seemed more beast-like than human now. For the first time in their long relationship, Gregory, the stately Constable who raised him from birth, found the Master’s resolve to conquer and destroy unnerving.
The Master stared into the spherical body, unaware of Gregory’s watchful eye. The glowing crystal ball threw different intensities of light. Damon’s pale skin took on a ghostly countenance as the illumination flickered, casting chilling shadows.
Damon addressed his Constable. “Do you have any idea what this means, Gregory?” The young man looked up from the luminous sphere. The gray-haired gentleman looked on with apprehension as the light reflection cast deep shadows onto Damon’s face and then washed away the detail.
“No, Damon, what does this mean?”Gregory replied in a monotone voice, concealing his feelings.
“See the power I have! It is time, Gregory! I must take this country!” Damon paused and spoke in an inhuman tone. “It is my time!” His manner intimidated the Constable.
Gregory walked over to the peculiar globe and investigated its glass body. Distressed at the picture it portrayed, he said. “You have caused this catastrophe for no apparent reason.
“Why spend your time inflicting such tragedy on an inconsequential target? You are not using the power given to you with wisdom. This behavior is madness!” Appalled, Gregory stared at the bludgeoned man paramedics struggled to pull from a semi and place onto a gurney. “I have not raised you to be unwise but rather to acquire wisdom before drawing from the underworld. You do not need to take unnecessary chances! I agree you are to wreak destruction and mayhem, but don’t expend your energy recklessly, dear Master. Instead, make the most of every opportunity.”
“Oh, but you are mistaken, Constable. I have taken out a real threat. This man possesses the woman’s heart that our leader appointed me.” Confident his step-father would see the significance of his actions he relaxed.
“Damon, this man is not spending any time with Meredith. We’ve already discussed this. He is insignificant. Your fears surrounding her feelings for him are unfounded. Don’t waste your precious gift.”
Insecurity crept up on him. “Constable, listen! Her affections are still strong for Jared. I am ensuring she will have no reason to love him.”
“Damon, you cannot overpower love with any form of corruption. Love is a force evil can never conquer. I know you do not understand love, so I am giving you some infallible advice. If you want to be successful within your calling, don’t concern yourself with that insurmountable and elusive power. I’m warning you, young Master.”
“There is nothing more influential than the depravity given to me from the underworld! No creature is more perfect within the dark realm than Lucifer! Do you understand? Nothing or no one on this earth!”
Gregory’s face held a blank expression as he studied his angry pupil. “Damon, you will never overcome the power of love. You do not need to focus your energy on such a force. Use your corrupt nature to lure her into sin and forget the other. She will carry guilt from the thoughts you impart to her, and the purity in her heart will be lost. Then she will not feel worthy of an emotion such as love, and you will have her in the palm of your hand. As far as taking over the country, that is premature. We will get through the present struggle with this bride our leader appointed you, and then we will consider your next conquest.”
“Of course! I never realized it until now! You’ve always been one to minimize the destiny appointed to me.” Damon did not understand the truth. In his mind, Gregory attempted to deceive him by speaking it.
“Young man! I am the one who supported and assisted you with your goals throughout your life!” Gregory understood that the truth spoken confused the young man. To his demise, the Constable had only the truth to stand on.
“I am at the end of my rope with you, Constable. You have shamed me since that human woman conceived me! In my stupidity, I’ve failed to recognize it.”
“I have always supported you. You have nothing to fear from me. My assignment is to raise you as a father would. We are in no hurry.”
“I’m tired of waiting, Gregory. I’m ready to move on!” The Master paced.
“Take one thing at a time, young Master. The changes happening within that human frame are extreme and painful. I can help you through it, as I’ve gone through a transfiguration too.” The Constable remained cautious with Damon as he had not experienced this type of rebellion since he was a child.
“You do not believe I am the one!” Damon accused the Constable.
“The prophecy concerning your life is quite clear. I believe that you are mistaken about the time appointed for your destiny. The timing is not right, son. If you search deep inside, you will understand that you, my boy, are not ready for any more responsibility. You are confirming this fact as we speak.” Gregory’s feelings were not about to change. Damon was full of himself. Arrogance, to the Constable, put his young Master in a place of weakness and vulnerability. He could not let Damon’s misconceptions go.
“I understand better than you think!” Damon’s eyes were wild and dark as he stood his ground with his caretaker.
“You need to wait on Lucifer, without him, you are powerless.” Gregory tried to remind Damon of his roots, hoping his attitude would soften.
“It is time you recognized my genius, old man.” The young Master’s suspicions grew as he glared at the old Constable.
“You may be mighty, Damon, but more experience will suit you well. You need to be patient.” Gregory’s efforts were in vain. Damon’s expression became cold, thus, Gregory searched for a way to end the conversation.
Resentment laced itself within his words as he continued. “I am destined to rule not only Russia but the world.”
Gregory could not resist sharing his doubts with Damon. He believed that the Master’s destiny would be extraordinary. Even so, the audacity of the man unnerved Gregory. To attest to being the leader that all evil awaits infuriated the Constable.
“How do you propose such a thing? It is blasphemy!”
“I will be the one all are waiting for, Gregory. I will rule a one-world-order created and instigated by our leader.” Damon spoke with determination. Narcissism emerged from Damon’s person with such force his demeanor changed. Even so, he still found it impossible to believe that Satan chose the man he raised from an infant for the final hour. He envisioned the chosen one much differently.
“One man cannot rule the world. Hitler and many other influential men failed. What makes you think you could do any better than those powers!”
“I am chosen.” Damon’s eyes were piercing.
“That is what they thought also!” Gregory warned.
“I am the one, old man!” Damon roared.
“Pardon me?”
“You heard me!”
“Damon, don’t you think Lucifer would notify me of such a thing? I raised you all these years. Satan would require me to prepare you for such nobility, Damon. I do not deny that your calling is significant, but to claim such an honor is preposterous!”
A baritone snarl seethed from the young Master. In a fit of rage, he blew his governor across the room. Gregory hit the wall twenty feet behind him with force. The natural rock wall crumbled at the point of impact, and he slid down the wall landing hard on the marble floor. Pieces of rock and mortar fell upon the Constable and then stopped. He shook his head. Gradually, the rattled caretaker raised his hand until it reached his top lip. He looked at his finger and found he was bleeding.
From where he sat, the Constable raised his arm, sending a white fog across the room. It encompassed Damon and wrapped him like a mummy. Gregory wiped his hand in the air, which stitched Damon’s eyes shut. The Constable’s arm dropped to the floor. He prayed and waited for Satan to come to him.
“You foolish old man, to hell with you!” His eyes still sewn closed, the young Master focused on the castle’s Constable of 30 years and directed his thoughts to Gregory’s limp body. Gregory shook in violent pulses of energy. Damon continued sending more power as a dark angel rose from the underworld and entered his human frame.
Suddenly, Gregory’s eyes opened, and he began gasping for air. Gregory clapped three times, and Damon flew up to the ceiling and smashed against it. A few minutes...
