CHAPTER TWO
The sun was beating down on the top of the tent and the cold embrace of air from the night was long gone. Cyra felt the beads of sweat start to form on her forehead as the pile of blankets trapped her body heat. Gypsy was still sleeping soundly on the other side of the mattress, undisturbed by the sounds of fellow campers and various types of music that had become more abundant from the night before.
She got off the air mattress carefully as to not wake Gypsy. Her mouth was drier than the Sahara desert; quickly making her way to the water jug and taking a long, satisfying swig. She unzipped the tent and adjusted to the bright sunlight that was beating down. What time is it? She thought to herself as she got reoriented back to reality and looked down at her watch. 9:54 in the morning. All right, not that bad. I’ll let Gypsy sleep ’til 10:30 before waking her up.
Their neighbors were already up and making food.
“Good morning,” Cyra waved as she walked over to one of the folding chairs that was set up under her and Gypsy’s canopy, adjacent to theirs.
There was a total of four people staying at the campsite behind them. Shai, Cole, Jeffrey, and Lollie; all couples and all super nice. Shai and Cole had made a thirteen hour road trip to meet up with Jeffrey and Lollie who had to only make a four hour drive. Way better than the thirty-two hour drive Cyra and Gypsy made cross-country, but that’s besides the point. They were all there to have a good time, meet some dope people, and share their love of the same djs.
Shai was twenty-two years old with long, dark brown hair that sashayed behind her whenever she walked. Her pale skin and freckles made it appear even darker and her deep brown eyes were so enticing, they could make anyone agree to do anything. Her voice was soft though, in a nurturing and calming way; it sounded almost like a lullaby whenever she talked.
Cole, Shai’s boyfriend, was the exact opposite of her. He was twenty-five years old and had dark brown skin with short, curly, black hair. Tattoos covered most of his body and he had a very athletic build. Cole was about twice the size of Shai width-wise, but only stood a few inches taller than her. He didn’t talk too much, but when he did, his voice was deep and melodic, in a dominant, but also somewhat soft type of way.
Jeffrey was twenty-four, pale and had short, soft tousled blonde hair with a smaller physique but height to make up for it. He was the one in the group to crack jokes and was overly-friendly, but not in a creepy way. He made friends easily and was well-liked among anyone he came across. His voice was a little on higher-pitched side but he would not have been mistaken for a girl.
Lollie also known as Lolls, Jeffrey’s girlfriend, was twenty-three. She had medium length light blonde hair with natural highlights throughout it. She was about average height with curves that would make Sports Illustrated models cry. She was naturally beautiful with a personality to match. Her voice was kind of raspy but on the feminine side. Probably because her juul was as if it was glued to her hand; like it was a part of her.
“How was your first day?” Shai asked Cyra as she pulled her own chair up next to her. Cole was still sleeping in the tent and Jeffrey and Lollie were off attempting to wait in the long line for the showers.
“Wild to say the least but so much fun,” Cyra replied with a small laugh. “How was yours?”
“A lot of fun but we got tired so Cole and I came back early. We don’t get to see each other a lot since he has to stay on base and I’m stuck at home.”
“Y’all missed Excision’s two hour set?” Cyra asked in disbelief. How could anyone want to miss that? She thought to herself.
“Yeah but honestly whatever time we get to spend together is fun, even if we’re passed out in the tent super early,” Shai chuckled.
The tent started to unzip and they both looked over. Gypsy had finally awoken and emerged; she looked more disoriented than Cyra imagined she herself had looked. Gypsy looked around and it took her a minute to realize where Cyra was.
“Good morning,” Gypsy yawned with a smile as she walked over to the girls.
“Hey!” Shai said, “How was Excision?”
Gypsy’s face lit up and an even bigger smile came onto her face as the excitement in her voice raised, “OHMYGOD IT WAS AMAZING LIKE WOW I’VE BEEN WANTING TO SEE HIM HERE FOR SO LONG AND JUST WOW I’M AT A LOSS FOR WORDS BUT I’M NOT! IT WAS SO AMAZING AND AWESOME I’M SHOOK!”
Cyra and Shai both shared a laugh as Cyra stood up.
“Gypsy you want to go get in line for the showers then come back and eat?” Cyra asked.
“Yeah that sounds good. What time do we have to be ready by?” Gypsy replied.
Cyra opened her phone and looked at the lineup schedule, “The first person we want to see goes on at 4:30 so we need to be ready by 3:30 at least because I’m not sure how long the line to cross to the festival is going to be today.”
“Okay let’s go then so we’re not rushing. It’s what? Like 10:06 now? Yeah that’ll be plenty of time but we need to take pictures too,” Gypsy responded, mentally going through the checklist of everything she needed to do and how long it would realistically take.
“We’ll see you when we get back,” Gypsy and Cyra said in unison as they went to get their shower bags and change of clothes from the car before making their way to the long line for the showers.
“I’m honestly tempted to just go full wook but I wouldn’t be able to stand myself,” Gypsy proclaimed softly as she made a face of disgust, feeling the layer of dirt that had been on her since the night before.
Cyra laughed, “Yeah we need to bring a solar shower next year for sure.”
The line felt like it took an eternity but that was just because the sun was beating down on them. Without any shade for them to stand under either, the showers were about to feel amazing; the colder, the better. The portable showers were anything but the luxury Gypsy and Cyra were used to in their everyday lives but at least they had a way to get clean in the middle of nowhere.
After, they made their way back to camp. With the amount of dirt they had to walk through though, the showers were kind of pointless but at least they felt slightly cleaner than when they had woken up. They forgot to bring a full body mirror so Gypsy and Cyra had to look at themselves through the reflections of the car windows and the small personal mirrors both of them had brought.
Gypsy had long, wavy, platinum blonde hair that was almost down to her butt. Her olive skin and dark features made the blonde pop. She had small breasts but her butt made up for it and would make any person drool that she walked by. Her toned physique made it clear that she liked to workout. She loved tattoos almost as much as she loved working out. Her left arm was covered in a full sleeve and her right hip had a massive piece which accentuated her curves and muscular build.
Cyra had long, curly, jet black hair that made her freckles and icy blue eyes look that much more unique. She had some of the nicest curves anyone had ever seen. Her breasts alone looked fake when they were in fact, realer than could be. Her butt was slightly smaller than Gypsy’s but still, a force to be reckoned with. A few small tattoos scattered on her left wrist and right elbow were the only markings on her pale skin.
“Uhhh I don’t want to get ready but pictures need to be on point,” Gypsy whined as she pulled out her makeup bag and started to get set up at the table and pulled up a chair as Cyra started to get the grill ready.
“Bitch if you didn’t have a million different steps and products it wouldn’t take you so long,” Cyra laughed at Gypsy as she pulled out tortillas and shredded cheese to start making the quesadillas.
Gypsy fore passed a few steps that she would normally do because it was so hot. “I’m skipping foundation and all that shit and I’m focusing mainly on the eyes because it’s the only thing that won’t melt off later.”
“You’re saying this like it makes a huge difference to me,” Cyra sarcastically said as she flipped one of the quesadillas.
Gypsy rolled her eyes, “I’m just saying so you know why I don’t do it later when I do your makeup, all right?”
They both laughed and Gypsy quickly finished her makeup before eating and then moving on to do Cyra’s makeup, which took even less time. The girls pulled out their outfits for the day: coordinating red and black outfits that they had planned for months.
“You guys look so cute!” Lollie squealed.
“Thanks!” Gypsy smiled.
“We try,” Cyra chuckled as she did a sarcastically dramatic hair flip.
“Could one of you actually take pictures of us?” Gypsy asked.
“Yeah! You guys are seriously the cutest,” Shai said as she walked over to them.
They stood in the open and posed for pictures as Shai got some from every angle and made sure they were satisfied before walking back to the car to change out of their platforms and put on shoes that they would actually be able to walk in.
“Do you guys want a hit or two?” Gypsy asked as she sparked up a blunt she had just rolled.
“Hell yeah! Thanks!” Jeffrey eagerly exclaimed.
“Yeah! Thanks!” Cole chimed in, sitting across from Jeffrey.
Gypsy passed the blunt over to Jeffrey after taking a few hits.
“Do either...
