The story of the love and jealousy between two geniuses behind The Beatles, who merged and multiplied their talents to produce one of the greatest bodies of creative work in history.
'I don't think anyone is writing about The Beatles as well as Ian Leslie is right now.' PETE PAPHIDES
'Leslie is one of those thinkers who can spin something smart and important out of just about anything . . . eclectic and stimulating.' NICK HORNBY

A majestic biography of two young geniuses who merged their talents to create one of the greatest bodies of music in history.

For all the millions of words written about The Beatles, this is the first book to focus on what lay at the heart of the phenomenon: the alchemy of John Lennon and Paul McCartney. John and Paul were more than friends, collaborators or rivals - they were soulmates. Both were exceptionally intense young men who had the fabric of their world ruptured at an early age and longed to connect, first with each other, and then with audiences. The pop song became a container into which they poured everything they felt but couldn't say.

In John and Paul, Ian Leslie explores this volatile, madly creative quasi-marriage, which remains much misunderstood. The result is a wildly enjoyable biography, told through songs. It will make the world see and hear John and Paul afresh.

Ian Leslie is a journalist and author. His book, Conflicted: Why Arguments are Tearing Us Apart and How They Can Bring Us Together, was named a book of the year by The Times. His first career was in advertising, where he worked as a strategist for some of the world's biggest brands at agencies in London and New York. Leslie's writing on psychology, technology, politics and business has appeared in New Statesman, Economist, Guardian and the Financial Times. He is also the author of a widely admired newsletter, The Ruffian. @mrianleslie
