Matthew Edwards provides a comprehensive guide for singing rock ‘n’ roll, covering history, voice science, vocal health, audio technology, technical approaches, and stylistic parameters. This fully updated and expanded edition gives specific advice for a variety of skill levels and for those crossing over from classical or musical theatre.
Matt Edwards shares his approach to coordinating the voice so the singer can focus on performing rock ‘n’ roll. Fully updated and expanded, this new edition gives specific advice for beginner, intermediate, and advanced performers as well as those crossing over from classical or musical theatre. It also contains the latest information on technological advances in performing rock ‘n’ roll.

Rock ‘n’ roll is an outgrowth of the blues that combines driving rhythms, powerful chords, and lyrics that communicate the human experience to audiences around the world. Although rock singing was once seen as a vulgar use of the human voice and was largely ignored by the academic community, voice teachers and singers around the world have recently taken a professional interest in learning specialized techniques for singing rock 'n' roll.

So You Want to Sing Rock ‘n’ Roll gives a comprehensive guide to rock history, voice science, vocal health, audio technology, technical approaches to singing rock, and stylistic parameters for various rock subgenres. This work is not only the ideal guide to singing professionals, but the perfect reference work for voice teachers and their students, lead and back-up singers, record producers, and studio engineers.

Matt Edwards is one of the leading voice teachers for commercial and musical theatre styles in the United States. He is currently an Associate Professor of Voice at Shenandoah Conservatory where he developed the first pop/rock training program for musical theatre majors in the United States. He is also Artistic Director of the Contemporary Commercial Music Vocal Pedagogy Institute. He has been a recipient of the Van Lawrence Fellowship and a master teacher for the NATS Intern program where he collaborated with Dr. Aaron Johnson at NYU Langone Voice Center to measure vocal tract adjustments between styles using real-time MRI.
