Oxford University Press
978-0-19-356272-1 (ISBN)
The Oxford Book of Organ Music by Women Composers presents a comprehensive survey of historical organ pieces by women composers alongside six newly commissioned works. The music is stylistically varied and encompasses secular and sacred repertoire from a range of periods. In addition to original organ repertoire, the collection also contains several organ transcriptions in new arrangements for the instrument.
Anne Marsden Thomas is one of the most influential organ teachers of today, and has wide experience as a concert and church organist. She has written or edited over twenty books for organists. In 2015 she was awarded the MBE in the Queen's New Year Honours, and, in 2017, was the first woman to receive the Royal College of Organists highest decoration, the RCO Medal. Ghislaine Reece-Trapp is a Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Musicians, a trustee of the Royal College of Organists, a co-founder and former co-chair of the Society of Women Organists (SWO), and a music teacher at Highgate School. She receives regular commissions, and her works have been performed by individuals including Anna Lapwood, Richard Pinel, and David Pipe, and by ensembles including the BBC Singers, Clare College Choir, Cambridge, and Worcester Cathedral Choir.
