This celebrated collection contains arrangements prepared for Harriet Cohen by some of Britain's finest composers, such as Frank Bridge, William Walton, and Ralph Vaughan Williams, and includes favourites such as 'Sleepers, Wake', 'In dulci jubilo', and the Andante from Brandenburg Concerto No. 2. With a new introduction by David Owen Norris, A Bach Book for Harriet Cohen is ideal for all pianists of intermediate standard or above wishing to further explore Bach's music.
Harriet Cohen (1895-1967) studied at the Royal Academy of Music, London, before quickly gaining a reputation as a Bach specialist. She was also strongly associated with British music of the period and was the dedicatee of numerous contemporary works, including the last six pieces in Bartók's Mikrokosmos, Vaughan Williams's Piano Concerto, and most of Bax's piano music. Harriet received various honours and awards, among them a CBE in 1938 and a Freeman of the City of London in 1954. David Owen Norris is a pianist, broadcaster, teacher, and composer. The first recipient of the Gilmore Artist Award, he has achieved international acclaim as a concert pianist, recording a rich variety of music as both a soloist and accompanist. Norris has also presented a number of radio series, including BBC Radio 4's Playlist.
