The poems recount how she felt during this whole period of her life.The book's tone is sad and forgiving, but with a happy ending. The story shows that even with countless bad things in one's life, there is always a reason to stay alive. There will be bad people who cause you to make bad decisions, but eventually you will see that allof these things shape you into an amazing person. You are not alone.
