This novel is a blend of fantasy, thriller and myths and legends grounded in real present-day life.
Alan Gibbons takes us into Greek mythology in most exciting way with a powerful novel about a present-day boy, Phoenix, the son of a computer geek who creates a virtual reality game that gets a bit too real. In playing the game, Phoenix becomes Theseus pursued by the Minotaur, becomes Perseus and confronts the Gorgon, and goes down into the Underworld with Orpheus. His terrifying adventures are interwoven with the difficult reality of his life at home and at his new school. As always, Alan Gibbons writes with extraordinary understanding about contemporary children - but this time moves on to an action-packed and thrillingly dangerous story of fantasy worlds.

Alan Gibbons is a full time writer and a visiting speaker and lecturer at schools, colleges and literary events nationwide, including the major Book Festivals: Edinburgh, Northern Children's Book Festival, Swansea, Cheltenham, Sheffield and Salford. Alan is also a key contributor at the QCA/National Literary Strategy 'Writing Together' conferences. He lives in Liverpool with his wife and four children. Alan Gibbons is a profilic author, an infant school teacher and the father of four chldren. He lives in Liverpool and much of his writing stems from his involvement with inner-city children. He is an extremely popular speaker and visitor to schools and libraries, with a lot to say about children - particularly boys - and reading.
