The overall aim of these sets is to teach and develop information handling skills within meaningful, curriculum-related contexts at Key Stage 2 (Scottish Levels B/C/D), through a shared group reading environment. This set contains two copies of six sets of titles as well as audio material.
The overall general aim of this boxed set is to teach and develop information handling skills within meaningful, curriculum-related contexts at Key Stage 2 (Scottish Levels B/C/D), through a shared group reading environment and using books children are likely to encounter in the classroom. The box comprises two books on each of the following titles: water, the water cycle, machines by design, everyday things and how they work, polar wildlife, deserts, early 20th century, victorian children, minibeasts, insects, bread, the story of a grain of rice, write away, body language, the story of writing and how animals talk.
Their aim is to enable children to: locate relevant information; perceive the differences between fiction and non-fiction; develop active reading strategies in order to use information books purposefully and flexibly; extract essential information; reformulate information in order to internalize it; communicate, share and present their findings; develop criteria for evaluating information texts; widen vocabulary; become aware of different genres in information texts; become interested in a variety of topics through their reading for information; introduce the pleasures of reading non-fiction using a shared reading environment.
