A children's picture book which tells the story of the early death of a younger brother, to help all children come to terms with similar loss and grief.
Ethan is a true story written through the eyes of a child on the loss of his baby brother. It explains the thoughts and feelings a child may have about loss and grief and describes sometimes frightening environments like hospitals, with sensitivity and warmth.Such a delicate topic is approached in a sympathetic and comforting manner. Through exploration of feelings, ranging from intense sadness to wonder, a child's vulnerability and innocence is captured. Ethan's story is told to support other parents who may be struggling with their own loss and are searching for a way to help their own children - and inevitably - helping themselves in the process.

Lisa grew up in Melbourne and moved to Geelong after completing Year 12 in 1989. After caring for hundreds of children over a ten year period as a Pre-school Mothercare Nurse, Lisa began her own family. Lisa and her husband Brad have four children. Her second child, Ethan, inspired this book. Ethan was born early at just 24 weeks. Lisa and Brad hoped desperately for him to become stronger, but unfortunately after two days, he lost his fight. Devastated, Lisa began jotting down Ethan's story and the illustrations were comforting at such a sad time. Throughout this, Lisa's eldest son Ned began asking questions, and Lisa decided to honour Ethan's life and try to help other families explain loss and grief to their own children.
