Springer International Publishing (Verlag)
978-3-031-68512-5 (ISBN)
This volume in the book series Healthy Ageing and Longevity focuses on the interaction and co-dependence of the brain and mental health during ageing. A wide-range of topics discussed here include conceptual and historical understanding, descriptive analyses, and evidence-based interventions for the maintenance, enhancement and recovery of the brain and mental health, especially in old age. The emphasis is on the effective biological and psycho-social lifestyle factors, and complementary medicine and traditional cultural practices that could be health beneficial. Potential readership includes the early stage- and experienced researchers in biogerontology and cognitive sciences, and college/university teachers, medical practitioners, health care personnel, and public educationists.
Gurcharan Kaur, PhD, is Emeritus Scientist-CSIR and University Honorary Professor, Department of Biotechnology, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, India. Her research areas and expertise include ageing modulation through intermittent fasting and natural products, especially with respect to the brain health. She is the recipient of IAN-BK Bachhawat Memorial Life Time Achievement Award, and is a Fellow of National Academy of Sciences, India along with several other awards and honors in recognition of her contributions in the area of adult brain plasticity in health and disease. She is currently the section editor of the Neurobiology and Ageing section of the journal Biogerontology.
Suresh I. S. Rattan PhD, DSc, is Professor Emeritus at the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, Aarhus University, Aarhus, Denmark. His research areas and expertise include ageing of human cells and application of the concept of mild stress-induced hormesis as a modulator of ageing. He is the recipient of the Lord Cohen Medal in Gerontology from the British Society for Research on Ageing (BSRA). He is the editor-in-chief of the journal Biogerontology, and the editor for the book series Healthy Ageing and Longevity. He is the present Chairman of the Biological Section of the European Region of the International Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics (IAGG-ER).
