Examines the prevalence of sexual abuse in Britain. Amongst the findings analyzed are that 59per cent of young women and 27per cent of young men report at least one experience of sexual abuse before they were 18. The final chapter of this text explores the policy implications of these findings.

Kelly, Regan and Burton also discuss: the ways in which race and class relate to the prevalence of abuse; abuse in the household; abuse by other adults; abuse by peers; and gender issues. The strategies used by children to avoid abuse are related to critical variables and the study concludes with an important review of policy, practice and prevention.
