Award-winning photojournalist and scuba diver John C. Fine has explored and documented the sunken fleets of the world– from Scapa Flow to Truk Lagoon – for most of his adult life, and the best of his discoveries are brought to life in this book. Aided by thirty-two of his own haunting photographs, Fine describes the sunken ships and the stories behind them, relating the circumstances of losing, and in some cases salvaging and preserving, ships dating from early Roman colonisation to modern times. Discovering the World’s Ghost Ships is a book that captures the drama of discovery and backs up the adventure with historical, scientific and archaeological facts.

Where possible, eyewitness accounts to the sinkings are included, along with the folklore attached to some of the great salvage attempts and occasional accounts by people who have discovered shipwrecked treasure.

The result of years of research and underwater exploration, Diving the World’s Ghost Ships will capture the imagination of everyone with an interest in maritime history and armchair adventurers who dream of sunken warships and treasure-laden galleons long lost on the ocean floor.

John Christopher Fine is a marine biologist and a doctor of jurisprudence. He has dived on shipwrecks all over the world, is a Master Scuba Instructor and Instructor Trainer and the author of over two dozen books on almost as many topics, including award-winning books dealing with ocean pollution and has authored both fiction and non-fiction. The liaison officer of the United Nations Environment Programme and the Confédération Mondiale des Activités Subaquatiques, Fine is a fellow of the Explorers Club and a member of the Academy of Underwater Arts and Sciences, a recognition he received in honour of his numerous books in the field of juvenile education. He has been the recipient of international recognition for his pioneering work investigating toxic waste contamination of our land and water resources.
