It removes two thousand years of Christian encrustation on the surviving texts, and produces a unique reconstruction and critical translation from the Greek of the first edition of the first four letters of Paul.

Charles Vergeer is a philosopher, classicist and philologist, and received his doctorate with a thesis on Heraclitus, entitled “Als een akker in de winter” [“Like a field in winter”]. He has published extensively on ancient philosophy and the origin of Christianity. His publications include The Letters of the Apostle Paul. Controversies and Consequences (2017); Philosophy in Ancient Rome: A Loss of Wings (2018) and Philosophy in Late Antiquity: Boundaries of Being (2019).
