David McCallum is emeritus professor of sociology at Victoria University, Melbourne, Australia. He publishes work in the fields of historical sociology, law and society, history of psychiatry, Indigenous studies, sociology of education, and most recently a book titled Criminalizing Children. Welfare and the State in Australia, published in the Cambridge Studies in Law and Society series (Cambridge University Press, 2017). Victoria University (VU) acknowledges, honours, recognises and respects the Ancestors, Elders and families of the Boonwurrung (Bunurong), Woiwurrung (Wurundjeri) and Wadawurrung (Wathaurung) people of the Kulin Nation on the Melbourne campuses, and the Gadigal and Guring-gai people of the Eora Nation on our Sydney Campus.
