Expanding on a theme of a conference organized by the Mental Health Foundation, this volume is a synthesis of the recent and rapid developments in molecular biology and genetics which impinge upon clinical practice in mental illness. The implications of new discoveries in these fields for a whole range of intractable conditions are immense.
