Peace is a reconciling Of opposites.Peace is rooted in love, It lies in the heart, Waiting to be nourished, Blossom And flourish, Until it embraces the world. - Terry Waite
As we hurry through our often demanding lives, we long for stillness, for tranquillity, for social harmony. Yet in today's troubled world, peace can seem far away indeed. This inspiring collection of 40 meditations and prayers, drawn from the much-loved BBC Radio 4 series Prayer for the Day, makes clear that true peace begins with an inner quiet in which we may know our own thoughts - and hear the voice of God.Some of the prayers remind us of the calm that comes from being grateful, while others explore the many ways of living peaceably from day to day. From prayers for concord in the world to reflections that examine the meaning of peace in our hearts, this is a timely collection from a wide range of faith traditions, offering hope, reassurance and a vision for the future.

Prayer for the Day has for several decades been broadcast daily on BBC Radio 4 at 5:43am (and repeated later in the day), offering listeners an inspiring two-minute reflection to start their day. Terry Waite CBE first came to public attention in the 1980s for his role as hostage negotiator while envoy to the Archbishop of Canterbury. He was himself taken prisoner in Lebanon in 1987, and endured 1,763 days of captivity. Since that time he has dedicated himself to writing, lecturing and humanitarian work, including as president of both Y Care International (the relief and development agency of the YMCA) and the homeless charity Emmaus UK.
