December 31st (Day 208) People say I talk about you like you're still here. Don't they know that you are still an important part of my life? Your spirit, your memories, your impact on me, are always there. Am I to tuck your name away in the dark attic of my life and relish the memories and sweetness of your existence in solitary hours, never sharing them with others because it makes them uncomfortable? To this I say, 'Tough!' I have never been able to give to life the conformities that it seems to demand. I've always responded in the way that seemed natural to me. It's been my misfortune (or fortune, depending upon my perspective at the moment) that this doesn't meet the rules of conformity or normalcy that people in my life seem to think exists. The trip exhausted me beyond measure as I tried to deal with the difference between 'normal' people and myself. The 'normals' seem to feel that the past is something to be stuffed in the background and ignored, especially if it contains any pain. I believe the past is a mirror on which we reflect the visions and dreams of our future.
