Developing Mental Toughness examines how individuals respond to stress, pressure and challenge. A book for those whose role it is to improve individual and organizational performance; it details the core skills required to address these issues.
Mental toughness is about how effectively individuals respond when faced with stress, pressure and challenge. Understanding this concept is essential to improving performance for both the individual and the organization, and this book, one of the first in the field to take a look at mental toughness as a serious discipline, teaches you how to assess mental toughness in individuals and organizations to drive performance, improve your own ability to cope with stress and apply a range of techniques required to recognize, use and develop mental toughness effectively. Full of sample exercises and case studies, this book also features the Mental Toughness Questionnaire - a unique self-assessment tool to determine your mental toughness score and what this means. Tracing its development from sports psychology into the world of health, education and business, Developing Mental Toughness takes a deep look at mental toughness and its application at the organizational level.

Peter Clough is the former Head of Psychology at Hull University and is recognized as a leading academic authority on the subject of mental toughness. He is co-developer of the mental toughness model and the MTQ48 Mental Toughness Questionnaire. Peter has also contributed to Psychometrics in Coaching and Leadership Coaching (both also published by Kogan Page). Doug Strycharczyk is Managing Director for AQR, a management consultancy that helps organizations to improve performance through applying the principles of mental toughness and empowering their people. Doug is a business consultant and frequent speaker, and has played a major role in showing how the concept applies across all areas where people are involved. He is co-author of Developing Resilient Organizations with Charles Elvin (CEO of ILM) and a contributor to Psychometrics in Coaching. You can find out about the mental toughness measure and questionnaire at www.aqr.co.uk
