Systemics can be seen as an attempt to navigate our increasingly complex and difficult-to-understand world. The book provides an easy-to-read introduction to this new field of science. The book is aimed at students as well as professional practitioners. The book deals with: the background, history, and objectives of systemics, basic system concepts and definitions, systems thinking, systems modelling and system description, system simulations and systemic computer experimenting, systems design, systems intervention and organizational transformation, hindrances to systemic applications and possible ways to overcome them, and internalizing of attained knowledge.

Anita M. Håkansson received her PhD in informatics and systems science from Stockholm University, Sweden, where she is now an associate professor. Her main research interests include spatial information systems, geographic information systems (GIS), visualization and systemic design methods. Her recent research has focused on the development of sociomapping graphs. She is the co-author of two books on systems informatics.Stig C. Holmberg received his MSc and PhD, both in engineering, from the Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden. He is a former professor at Mid Sweden University, and he now heads the research institute C8Labs, also in Sweden. His main research interests include systemic modeling and design methods and applications of fuzzy, anticipatory, and spatial information systems. He is a life member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
