People react less to what is said than how it is said. This text identifies six styles of communication - noble, socrative, reflective, magistrate, candidate and senator - showing how understanding them allows the reader to present ideas favourably, control the outcome of interactions, and win important debates. "Talking scenarios" should help the reader create the "sounds of success", and "hear" people talk their way into or out of trouble. Dealing with different styles of people, for example "Woody Allen" type, "Margaret Thatcher" type, is covered, while a communication style profit test allows readers to measure the effectiveness and style with which they themselves communicate.
Dr. Linda McCallister is a motivational speaker and Dean of the College of Business and Director of the Doctoral Program at University of Texas Pan American. She holds a PhD in organizational communication.
