Dibakar Sen is a Professor in the Centre for Product Design and Manufacturing and Department of Mechanical Engineering, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore. He has done his MSc and PhD in engineering from IISc in 1993 and 1997 respectively, and has worked in ISRO as an Engineer before joining IISc . His research interests include computer aided analysis and synthesis of mechanisms. geometric and topological modeling, digital human modeling, computer aided ergonomy, and advanced prosthetic systems design. He developed multiple products in the agriculture, disability and medical domains; he holds 3 patents and has 6 patents pending, published about 35 papers in international journals and about 65 in Conferences.
Santhakumar Mohan is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Palakkad. After his ME in Mechanical Engineering from Government College of Technology, Coimbatore, he went on to do his Ph.D. in Engineering Design from IIT Madras. He has worked in IIT Indore as an Associate Professor before joining IIT Palakkad. Dr. Mohan has received many awards over the years, including research fellowships from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (Germany), Erasmus+ (France), Korea Robotics Society (South Korea), KAIST University / National Research Foundation (South Korea), and AICTE (India). His research interests include parallel robotic platforms, assistive and rehabilitation robots, field robotics, mobile manipulators and underwater robotic systems. He holds 4 patents and has published 15 book chapters, 53 journal publications, and 65 papers in various international conferences.
G. K. Ananthasuresh is Professor and currently Chair of Mechanical Engineering, Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru. After his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from University of Michigan, Ann Arbor (USA), he was a post-doctoral research associate in the Microsystems Technology Laboratory, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Cambridge, USA. His research areas include compliant mechanisms, topology optimization, microelectromechanical systems, kinematics, and cell mechanics. Prof Ananthasuresh has been the recipient of the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize, Swarnajayanthi Fellowship, and Abdul Kalam Technology Innovation Fellowship by the Government of India; the Ralph R. Teetor Educational Award by the Society of Automotive Engineers, and the National Science Foundation (NSF) Faculty Early Career Award in recognition of his academic excellence. He serves on the editorial board of many prestigious journals, holds 8 patents, and has published 2 textbooks, 4 edited books, 14 book chapters, 100 journal articles and 166 conference papers.
This volume presents select papers from the Asian Conference on Mechanism and Machine Science 2018. This conference includes contributions from both academic and industry researchers and will be of interest to scientists and students working in the field of mechanism and machine science.
