Brucellosis is a worldwide bacterial zoonotic disease affecting humans and animals. In Bangladesh, brucellosis was first reported in cattle in in buffalo in 1997. However, there is very limited study to investigate prevalence of Brucella abortus specific antibody response in sheep and goats. Therefore, the objectives of present study were (i) To determine seroprevalence of Brucella abrotus specific antibody response in sheep and goats at farms, veterinary clinic and slaughter houses in Mymensingh and (ii) to find out the relation of prevalence of brucellosis in sheep and goat with their age, sex, pregnancy, husbandry condition and history of abortion. . Female sheep and goats showed higher prevalence of brucellosis as compared to male sheep and goats. On the other hand, sheep and goats above 2 years of age showed higher prevalence of brucellosis as compared to other compared to other ages. The highest prevalence was recorded in sheep (15.38%) at Veterinary Clinic and, in goats (7.5%) at Municipal Slaughter House. Findings of this study may suggest that brucellosis is endemic in sheep and goats in Mymensingh region of Bangladesh.

Dr. Laboni Akhter received DVM and MS in Microbiology from the Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU). She is a Veterinary officer at the Dept of Livestock Services, Bangladesh. Her major area of research is ovine and caprine brucellosis.
